Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) James (Jim) L. Fuhriman is a native of Caldwell, Idaho. He joined the United States Army in 1986 as a Private in the 4th Infantry Division where he served as an Infantry Combat Medic. Several years later he left the Active Duty Army and joined the Army Reserves. He subsequently earned an Associate’s Degree from Riverside Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Healthcare Administration from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration while also working full time as the Practice Administrator for Riverside Neurosurgical Associates and still fulfilling his Reserve Military service obligations. Upon completing a deployment to Bosnia and Germany in 1996, he was selected as one of the few Sergeants in the Army to receive a direct commission as an Officer. In 1998, he decided to leave the civilian sector and returned to service as a full time Officer in the United States Army. LTC Fuhriman currently serves as the 865th Combat Support Hospital Operations Officer, the interim 8th Medical Brigade Operations Officer, and the resident NATO Medical Planner for all medical operations supported by the 3d Medical Command Deployment Support based out of Atlanta, Georgia.
LTC Fuhriman is a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College, Army Medical Operations Course, Joint Medical Planners Course, Pre-Command Course, Advanced Operations Course, Defense Strategy Course, Medical Logisticians Course, Combined Arms School, Defense Support to Civilian Authorities Course, is an Instructor for the NATO University in Oberammergau, Germany for Joint Medical Operations, is an Instructor for the Medical Effects of Weapons of Mass Destruction Course, is an Instructor for the Army Medical Operations Course, is an Instructor for the FEMA National Incident Management System and is one of the primary instructors for the Army Company Level Leadership Development Course.
LTC Fuhriman has been awarded the Bronze Star, six Meritorious Service Medals, 11 Army Commendation Medals, 5 Army Achievement Medals, 2 NATO Medals, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Service medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M device, Overseas Service Ribbons, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and many others. He also has earned the coveted Expert Field Medical Badge, the Army Air Assault Badge and completed the United States Air Force Academy Airborne Jump School. He has been selected as a member of the prestigious Order Of Medical Military Merit. LTC Fuhriman deployments include Humanitarian Disaster Assistance missions in Central and South America, several countries in Africa and within the borders of the United States. His combat deployments include missions in the Drug War, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.
LTC Fuhriman is married to Julie Deann (Tindall) Fuhriman of Corona, California. They have two daughters: Alyx (24), Kajsa (20). His hobbies include flying as a Single Engine Land rated Private Pilot, studying history and serving in his Church callings.
